Transforming Western Australia’s Urban Landscape

In reshaping Western Australia's urban fabric, the transformation of retail strips into vibrant community hubs requires a unified approach. As a consultant keen on strategic initiatives, I propose a focused vision that integrates local government, developers, and landlords.

Higher Density Development for Dynamic Community Hubs

In reshaping Western Australia’s urban fabric, the transformation of retail strips into vibrant community hubs requires a unified approach. As a consultant keen on strategic initiatives, I propose a focused vision that integrates local government, developers, and landlords.

I believe that by leveraging higher density development, including Strata Title and prospective Community Scheme developments, we can propel WA’s urban spaces into thriving destinations that resonate with the community.

Here are a few of my considerations:

1. Tailored Incentives for Community-Aligned Ventures

WA’s local government holds the key to shaping transformative incentives, including those related to Strata Title and Community Scheme developments. Collaborating with strategic property personnel, we can tailor offerings that attract businesses deeply embedded in the local community. Higher density development, including higher density property models, amplify this vision, creating bustling retail hubs that offer diverse services and experiences to residents.

2. Developers Shaping Community Narratives

Developers in WA, as visionaries of physical landscapes, can redefine urban living. Focusing on ventures that transcend profit motives, coupled with higher density development, attracts more residents to community-centric retail hubs. This synergy transforms retail strips into dynamic spaces that reflect the vibrancy of Western Australia’s unique communities.

3. Landlord-Community Synergy for Success

Landlords play a crucial role in fostering community connections. Guided by strategic professionals, they can actively engage with residents to curate a diverse business ecosystem. Higher density development, incorporating Strata, enhances this collaboration, making retail strips vibrant destinations that attract more people and contribute to economic sustainability.

4. The Impact of Higher Density Development

In Western Australia, higher density development, including Strata Title property developments and Community Scheme initiatives, serves as a catalyst for authentic community growth. By bringing more residents to these urban spaces, it fosters vibrancy and diversity. This increased footfall contributes to the economic sustainability of businesses, ensuring that retail strips, with innovative property models, become true community hubs. Through thoughtful planning, higher density development can create a dynamic and connected urban environment.

Wrapping up my train of thought…

The transformation of WA’s retail strips into thriving neighbourhood hubs demands a focused and collaborative effort.

Local governments, developers, and landlords can align incentives, channel energy into community-centric ventures, and leverage higher density development to create enduring success. This integrated approach not only reflects the spirit of Western Australia but also brings more people to partake in the urban renaissance of this vibrant region.

A recent UDIA WA members event that I attended discussed some Projects Shaping the Future of WA, highlighting the below as some prime examples:

A vibrant redevelopment of Subiaco Oval and PMH which will see activation and residential opportunity creating a vibrant and connected community.

Expansion of educational space into the Perth CBD with state of the art infrastructure, attracting more lifestyle to the city centre.

Located in Town of Victoria Park and expanding on Curtin University campus including activation, retail, residential and hotel.

  1. Love your thoughts on this Nikki. I completely agree, leading developments like the ones highlighted are very exciting!

My only additional thought would be to incentivise higher density developments further along the northern coastal corridor (mainly because I miss out on all the action being on the outskirts of the Perth metro area).
